Enska frumtextinn

Denmark's Green Tripartite Agreement (Grøn trepart), concluded in 2024 between the government, agricultural organisations, and other stakeholders, includes ambitious land-use conversion targets. The agreement targets the conversion of approximately 390,000 hectares of agricultural land: approximately 250,000 hectares to forest and approximately 140,000 hectares to rewetted peatlands/wetlands. This represents approximately 15% of Denmark's cultivated agricultural area (approximately 2.6 million hectares total). The rewetting of drained peatlands is expected to be the single most cost-effective agricultural emission reduction measure, as drained organic soils emit significant quantities of CO2. The conversion programme is partly funded by the agricultural emissions tax and partly by direct government expenditure. Farmers whose land is converted will receive compensation. The agreement is part of Denmark's broader strategy to meet its legally binding target of 70% greenhouse gas emission reduction by 2030 (relative to 1990 levels) under the Danish Climate Act (Klimaloven, 2020).

Danska ríkisstjórnin gefur út stefnumótandi samkomulög og lagafrumvörp um loftslagsmál og sjálfbæra þróun sem hafa víðtæk áhrif á landbúnað og landnotkun.

Fyrirvarar

The 390,000 hectare figure is a target, not an accomplished fact. Implementation requires willing landowners, adequate funding, and administrative capacity. Previous Danish environmental programmes have sometimes fallen short of stated targets. The 250,000 ha forest conversion will take decades to deliver climate benefits (trees take years to grow). The economic impact on affected farming communities is a contentious political issue.
