The Maskína annual survey for the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs (fieldwork 12–19 March 2026, n=936) included a specific question on resuming EU accession talks. Findings: 42% of respondents favoured resuming accession talks, while 39% opposed. The poll also recorded 72% positive views of Iceland's NATO membership (with 7% negative), 65% support for Ukraine's defence against Russia (down from 71% the previous year), 80% support for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and 42% support for defence-related aid to Ukraine (up from 28% the previous year). The 42 / 39 split on EU accession talks shows the public roughly evenly divided in early 2026, which is broadly consistent with parallel Gallup Þjóðarpúls findings (POLL-DATA-014, POLL-DATA-020) showing a slight majority for continuing talks.

The exact question wording on EU accession talks is not published in the press release — full methodology and crosstabs are not publicly available. The 42% / 39% finding is close enough that small changes in question framing could move the result substantially (see POLL-DATA-022 on framing effects). Comparison with Gallup figures should account for different fieldwork dates and sample frames. Commissioned by the Foreign Ministry, which is leading the accession push — readers should note this when assessing how the result is presented.
