Enska frumtextinn
Seasonal labour demand in Iceland is pronounced due to the tourism and fishing sectors. Tourism employment peaks in summer (June–August) with approximately 15,000 additional temporary positions compared to winter, representing roughly 7% of the total workforce. Many seasonal positions are filled by EEA nationals — primarily from Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic — using the free movement rights guaranteed under the EEA Agreement. EU membership would not change seasonal migration patterns, as the legal framework is identical. However, Iceland would gain access to the European Network of Public Employment Services (PES) for better matching of seasonal labour supply and demand.

Seasonal employment figures include both full-time temporary contracts and part-time positions, making direct comparisons with annual employment data imprecise. Some seasonal workers are on registered contracts while others work informally.
