Íslenskur fiskiskipafloti taldi um 1.600 skráð skip árið 2024, þar af um 700 í virkum veiðum. Beint starfsfólk í veiðum var um 3.800 stöðugildi og til viðbótar um 4.500 í fiskvinnslu, samtals um 4% vinnuaflsins.

Iceland's fishing fleet comprised approximately 1,600 registered vessels in 2024, of which around 700 were actively fishing. Direct employment in fishing was approximately 3,800 persons (full-time equivalents), with an additional 4,500 in fish processing, together representing roughly 4% of the total workforce.

Employment figures represent full-time equivalents; seasonal and part-time participation is higher. The fleet has consolidated significantly — in 1990 there were over 3,000 active vessels and 6,000+ persons employed in fishing alone.
