Króatía gekk í ESB 1. júlí 2013 sem síðasta ríkið til aðildar. Aðildarviðræður tóku rúm 8 ár (2005–2011) og náðu til allra 35 kafla án verulegra undanþága — en kröfur um umbætur á dómskerfinu og stjórnsýslunni eiga ekki við um Ísland.

Croatia joined the EU on 1 July 2013, the most recent country to accede. Croatia's accession negotiations took over 8 years (2005–2011), covering all 35 chapters. Croatia was required to undertake significant judicial and administrative reforms. No significant opt-outs were granted.

Croatia's accession process is instructive but not directly comparable: Croatia had far more chapters requiring reform (judiciary, anti-corruption) than Iceland would, given Iceland's existing EEA implementation.
