Meðallaun á Íslandi eru með þeim hæstu í Evrópu — um 15–20% yfir meðaltali ESB-27 að teknu tilliti til kaupmáttar. Lágmarkslaun samkvæmt kjarasamningum námu um 425.000 kr. á mánuði (~2.800 evrur) í byrjun árs 2026, en hátt verðlag dregur verulega úr launaforskotinu.
Enska frumtextinn

Iceland has among the highest average wages in Europe. Adjusted for purchasing power parity, average gross wages in Iceland are approximately 15–20% above the EU-27 average and comparable to Denmark and Luxembourg. The statutory minimum effective wage, set through collective agreements rather than legislation, was approximately ISK 425,000 per month (~EUR 2,800) in early 2026. However, the high cost of living — particularly housing, food, and services — erodes much of the wage premium. Real wage growth has been modest since 2020 due to persistent inflation outpacing nominal wage increases.

Fyrirvarar

Cross-country wage comparisons are sensitive to PPP adjustments and exchange rate fluctuations. Iceland's króna volatility makes comparisons in euro terms unreliable over short periods. The collective bargaining system produces different wage structures than countries with statutory minimum wages.
