Enska frumtextinn

Iceland contributes to the EU budget indirectly through the EEA and Norway Grants mechanism. For the 2021–2028 period, the combined EEA/Norway Grants total €3.2 billion, of which Iceland's share is approximately €67.5 million (~€9.6 million per year). This compares to what Iceland would pay as an EU member: based on gross national income, Iceland's assessed EU budget contribution would be approximately €200–250 million per year. However, Iceland would also receive EU funds — structural and cohesion funds, CAP payments, and research funding (Horizon Europe). Net contributions would depend on the negotiated terms, but small peripheral countries have historically been net recipients of EU funds.

Fyrirvarar

The EEA Grants figure is the total commitment, not annual expenditure. Iceland's hypothetical EU budget contribution is estimated based on GNI share and may not reflect negotiated rebates or transitional arrangements. Net recipient status is not guaranteed — it depends on the spending programmes Iceland would qualify for.
